Lewis Hamilton: “This [MP4-26] car is closer to the ’09 car in the sense of downforce. The ’09 was terrible because the car was hopping, three-wheeling through corners, it was locking up, and it had no downforce. This doesn’t lock up, it doesn’t three-wheel and it handles really nice, better than last year’s car, but it just doesn’t have as much downforce. Because the regulations have changed, it’s a similar downforce level to ’09. We have a little more, but it’s not far off, so it feels weak in that area. Hopefully we’ve got some more downforce coming onto the car before the first race.”

Hopefully we’ve got some more downforce coming onto the car before the first race.

Mivel a szabályok változtak, a leszorítóerő-szint hasonló 2009-éhez. – Lewis Hamilton Continue reading

McLaren MP4-26 news snippets – hírmorzsák

Lewis has reported some news snippets today about the 2011 McLaren, the MP4-26.

Hey everyone. Was at mclaren yesterday checkin out the new designs for MP4-26. Its looking pretty kool, lots of neat ideas and improvements.

I was on the simulator yesterday, first time driving the new car and I was happy. Kers and rear wing is trick but felt right at home with it.

These new tyres r ok, not too big a difference. Rears r weak tho, they degrade fast. Reason I didn’t do the test is the tyres will change.

Car will change and so it was best to let the test drivers get all the data needed for the sim and wind tunnel.

Our kers is the best. It shud deliver. No holiday yet, am working flat out today with appearances until mid dec. Pushing guys at MTC too.

Me n JB r both driving the new MP4-12C 2moro, sick car! The 12c is the new McLaren road car.

HU: ‘Hello mindenkinek! A mi KERS-ünk a legjobb.

Abu Dhabi FP2: Hamilton, Vettel, Alonso, Webber

Hamilton bejelentkezett a futamgyőzelemért…

Lewis Hamilton set the quickest time of the second free practice session in Abu Dhabi on Friday.

The McLaren driver raised hopes that he might be able to compete for victory on Sunday by outpacing both Red Bulls and Fernando Alonso’s Ferrari.

The Yas Marina circuit was two seconds faster than in the day’s earlier session, with the times coming down as more rubber was laid on the track.

Alonso’s Ferrari had been quickest after most of the runners had completed their first long runs on the harder tyre, but Hamilton took the top spot as all the frontrunners improved on the softer compound.

Sebastian Vettel was second behind Alonso early on and improved on the soft tyre to finish second to Hamilton. Alonso ended the 90-minute session third, with Mark Webber fourth.

There were few changes in the final minutes as both Red Bull and Ferrari were lapping on heavy fuel loads at the end.

Robert Kubica was best of the non-title contenders in fifth for Renault, ahead of Felipe Massa (Ferrari), Vitaly Petrov (Renault), Jenson Button (McLaren) and Vitantonio Liuzzi (Force India).

Massa’s session ended early though, when his Ferrari stopped out on track with 22 minutes remaining, due to a reported fuel problem.

Aside from a few more cars sliding off the slippery surface, the only other incident of note was Jaime Alguersuari spinning, but coming to no harm, at Turn 19 with half an hour to run.
